Storms, Steel, and Smart Automation: A Big Day at Jones & Wilkinson LTD

Friday 14th November will be remembered as the day Storm Claudia swept across the UK — bringing high winds, heavy rain, and plenty of disruption.

At Jones & Wilkinson LTD, it will also be remembered for something far more exciting: a major step forward in our manufacturing capability and automation journey.

Despite the treacherous weather, it was a landmark day for our team, our partners, and our future.

A New 50T Frech Die Casting Machine Arrives

While most people were trying to stay out of the storm, we were welcoming a powerful new addition to our production line:
our new 50T Frech die casting machine, delivered from our Swedish partners Gjuteriteknik.

This investment represents a significant boost to our:

  • Capacity – enabling us to take on more work and larger volumes
  • Precision – improving the consistency and quality of our cast components
  • Efficiency – supporting faster, more reliable production cycles

Despite Storm Claudia’s worst efforts, the delivery and installation were carried out smoothly and professionally.

Expertly Handled in Treacherous Conditions

Bringing in a 50T die casting machine is never a simple task — especially in storm‑force winds.

Our thanks go to JL Cox Cranes, whose team expertly manoeuvred the new machine on site in extremely challenging conditions.
Their skill, care, and attention to safety ensured the delivery was completed without compromise, even as the weather did its best to complicate the operation.

Welcoming Our New RobCo Modular Robot

The day didn’t just mark an upgrade in machinery — it also signalled another leap towards smarter, more automated manufacturing.

We’re excited to announce the installation of our new RobCo modular robot, a flexible system that will help us:

  • Automate repetitive and labour‑intensive tasks
  • Improve consistency and reduce the risk of human error
  • Increase throughput while maintaining high quality standards

This is a key step in aligning our operations with the future of modern manufacturing.

Powered by Partnership: RoboMotion, Alphamation & Made Smarter

Bringing advanced automation to life is always a team effort.
We’re proud to be working with a group of expert partners who have helped make this project a reality:

  • RoboMotion Ltd – providing robotics expertise and integration support
  • Alphamation Ltd – contributing automation and handling solutions
  • Made Smarter – supporting our journey towards digitalisation and smarter manufacturing practices

With their help, we’ve been able to take our production further into the world of automated manufacturing, strengthening both our capability and competitiveness.

What This Means for Jones & Wilkinson LTD

These investments are more than just new equipment on the shop floor — they’re part of our long‑term vision for the business.

For our customers, this means:

  • Greater reliability in delivery and lead times
  • Consistent, high‑quality output from advanced die casting and automation
  • Capacity for growth, new projects, and more complex work

For our team, it means working alongside modern, efficient systems that support continuous improvement and innovation.
